Where are the refills!! [IV]

One month anniversary of my entering the states is long gone but i did not even realize it. In this one month, so many enthusiastic americans have talked with me, some of them are quite impressed by India while others consider india as land of many many poor people and that's the end of the story for them. anyways.......... when each of them asked about my experiences of usa, I would tell them that i do not feel any significant difference between india and here except the fact that there are more people to talk to!
One of the other things that strike me is that the prices of goods are crazy here. I can find the packet of same vegetable in a shelf, that belong to same quality class and same company have different prices. A microwave costs 25$ in wal-mart while a headphone costs 20$. I don't quite get it? Its not that microphones need some specialized labor or any costly ingredient. And its not these two goods that have such wierd prices, a bicycle (often called a bike here) would cost 56 $ while its light (like a torch) would cost 20 to 25$
and a skate-board .......... 135$ !@!#@#$@!$#$% ............
Its all about capitalism I guess......... the kind of culture that capitalism has developed here is very pathetic. I once read in a history book that at the town called Boston, in the time of great depression, the prices of tea went very low, so the companies decided that even when they have to throw away all the tea, they would not sell it at the prevailing low cost to prevent their loss..........
Its the same tendency of the capitalism that has carved the "All american" culture that astonish me daily.
People would use paper plates in their houses as well, they would use plastic bottles for water which have to be thrown after single use, walmart has a set of 10 pens to buy at fairly low price but no refill to those pens is available ! They have all the kind of stuff there available at cheap rates but all the stuff is intended to be used once or for a very short time and be thrown away........ the regular chips are available in round boxes of card board and not simple plastic bags.
This has developed a tendency of use and throw in americans which has made them impatient! For example. they would never bring their food in tiffins but some kind of use and throw silver foil and plastic bag. No one would take some pain and bring with them a tiffin box so that they can buy the sandwitch from fast food court and make them put in the box rather than pack it for just 5 mins!
I know that people in india also do not follow these practices but I recall that many people would bring cloth bags with them to buy vegetables so that plastic bags are not required!
Its not just the environment that bears the burdun of this indifference and irresponsible behavior. When i was talking to one lady who was native american, she told me that americans do not have patience and i too noticed it on the plane and at other places. The use and throw behaviour of people makes them change their outlook towards daily life too........ they do not care to use things in a manner to be able to re-use them, they would rather buy new ones than washing the old ones....... this makes them impatient for all other dealings also! this makes them impatient and incontent all the time!
But as they say........."its america"......... so i would keep my philosophy aside and add my "Gym experience :D"
I thought that i would go to the recreation center for some fun. So I went to the cardio room , its a big room where treadmills and other such complex machines for cardiovascular activities are kept. Its a good place to be at, there are so many people around that i was also exited about the exercises. so i increased the speed of the treadmill on which i was running....... and realized that it was too much and i could not keep up! (Actually it was speed greater than that of a girl who was running on machine next to me :D , how could i run slower than her :) ...... but since i was loosing control and was about to be pulled backwards
so i pulled the emergency stop....... but now if i start again, everyone would know the secret ...... so i "respectfully" stopped running and went out as if i had finished :D
now i went to the gym.......... there were so many machines and that too, very big ones. I had to look up all the time to see the faces of those doing exercises in the gym :(
and i thought that i was tall enough !
I felt as if someone had shrinked me before i entered the gym !
But i still somehow tried a dumbell with variable weights. but could only lift the empty rod :((
so i shifted to smaller free dumbells........ but as soon as i saw myself along with a giant guy in the mirror doing exercise ....... I realized that the size difference was too much .......... man!!
That was the end of my gymming for the day...... now i do not go to that part of the gym again :D
